Desiderium

1. longing, desire, wish  (especially for something once possessed)

2. grief, regret  (desire for something lost)

In Desiderium, Ruth Ross, who has adopted Tanzania as home for her and her new baby, is compelled to return to Scotland due to her father’s illness.  From the minute she steps back onto British soil, Ruth finds herself beset with difficulties and she longs for the life she had in Tanzania and especially for Kai, her close friend and confidant.

It is not long before Ruth makes a shocking discovery that threatens to change everything.  What began as a short visit turns into weeks and months and Ruth’s fear of missing out grows more intense with each long-distance telephone call.

Like a dream, the new life Ruth had carved out for herself in Tanzania seems to be fading away and she is left wondering will she and her daughter ever return?
